T-minus countdown is on!

The countdown is on for the Cycle Oregon week ride! I have been invited to blog my daily experiences on the ride. This will be a great opportunity for me to journal the week - too often so many experiences during the week get forgotten and lost.

With only a few weeks to. Go - it's time to start revising the packing list and start paying attention to the weather forecast!

Rearview camera for your bike!

A very cool gadget is coming to market and pre-orders are now being taken. The Cerevellum is an integrated rear view camera and cycling computer. It will also have GPS capabilities.

The best feature of this unit in my opinion is the rear view camera. I am a stickler for using two rearview cameras on all my rides, but there are still blind spots. The added bonus of having 30 second video clips recorded and saved in the case of an accident is great as well. The unit is pretty small and not much bigger than a Garmin. For those of us in the recumbent world, where needing longer wiring is essential, the unit wiring for the camera can be extended with a simple mini USB cable. AWESOME!

2010 Bridge Pedal

Completed the 2010 Portland Bridge Pedal. As to be expected it was a great time and the perfect ride to cruise the bridges and roads of Portland completely traffic (car) free! An estimated 20,000 came out to share the ride and good times. The trikes were the perfect platform to enjoy the nice easy cruise among so many thousands of other bikes.

Bicycles Part of World Domination Plot - Damned They Found Out!

Ok, I think I can officially say I "have heard it all" now. This is too unreal to believe, but believe it you must. Colorado republican candidate for governor Dan Maes said via todays Denver Post the following:

"At first, I thought, 'Gosh, public transportation, what's wrong with that, and what's wrong with people parking their cars and riding their bikes? And what's wrong with incentives for green cars?' But if you do your homework and research, you realize ICLEI is part of a greater strategy to rein in American cities under a United Nations treaty,"

Yes Danny, that is it. You are on to us. We riders of bicycles are coming to "reign in" American cities under a new bicycle revolution. Those who do not pedal in line will be run over with our knobbies and tossed into the Chainrings of Doom. All Hummers and the like will be ground up by the pedal-powered crushers of the New World and the remains shoveled into cargo bikes to be recycled into... more bikes!!! Should the survivors of this revolution not turn, they will be melted down in the boiling chain-lube fires into nutrient-dense energy gel packets for the riders of the New Society.

If someone made this up it would be hilarious. The fact someone actually thinks it is damned scary. Check out the article. Unbelievable. Though, it is a bit funny to envision Maes and all his goons waking up in the middle of the night in cold sweats from the nightmares of the army of Red Bikes piloted by EnviroNazis about to take over the United States.

Does anyone really believe this foolish rubbish spewing out of this guy? Yikes. Is there a "planet stop" somewhere along the solar system for us to boot these crazy passengers?

Fenders CAN be Cool!

Who would have thought that fenders could actually be COOL? I have seen a lot of great looking fenders on bikes through the years, but I have always coveted the awesome looking wood fenders. I finally had an opportunity to (an excuse actually) get a set of these for the QNT. Since I changed to the Big Apples, the stock fenders no longer fit... what to do to get ready for the wet weather this fall? Ah Ha!!

I had these made by Cody Davis of Woody's Fenders in Bend Oregon. I must say -  the workmanship is excellent and the fit is perfect. The looks are the icing on the cake, though now I am not sure if I ever want to ride in the wet again!

Given the nature of a custom fit on a trike, I drilled the fenders for the brackets myself, but all measurements of the stock feders were provided to Cody, guaranteeing a perfect fit.

Why Trikes are FUN!

As if there is any more needed reason to love trikes, here is a great vid found on youtube of a group of trikes descending a mountain pass. Awesome FUN!
